Cambridge English Exams

PBA students take internationally recognized Cambridge exams at school. From Year 2 we offer Placement Tests for our students  and recommend the right exam for our students. On parents request each student can participate in the exam, however exams are compulsory for Year 3 and Year 6 students.

Polish British Academy of Warsaw is a partner school in Advantage Program. Addvantage is the British Council’s examinations member scheme for schools, who register candidates each year. We also run exams in our school.

Young Learners (YLE) is a series of fun and engaging activity-based English language tests for primary level students. There are three levels: Starters, Movers and Flyers. The tests are created for children and use topics they are familiar with. With Cambridge English: Young Learners, teachers can motivate their students to learn English, and parents can see the progress and achievements made.

  • Starters exam lasts approximately 45 minutes, usually we recommend it in Year 2
  • Movers exam lasts approximately 65 minutes, usually we recommend it in Year 3
  • Flyers exam lasts approximately 75 minutes, usually we recommend it in Year 3 or 4

Each test is made up of three parts: Listening, Reading and Writing, Speaking.

All candidates who complete YLE tests receive a certificate. There is no pass or fail result. On their certificate, candidates will see shields for Listening, Reading and Writing, and Speaking. The maximum score for each is five shields. A total score of 10 or more shields shows that the child is ready to start preparing for the next Cambridge English test.

From Year 4 and 5 we introduce our students Key English Test (KET). It is the lowest level General English exam in the Cambridge English range. It shows that you can communicate in basic English in everyday situations. KET for Schools is at the same level as KET for Adults and leads to exactly the same internationally accepted certificate. The only difference is that the exam content is targeted at the interests and experiences of school children.

  1. Reading and Writing (1 hour and 10 minutes 50% of total mark)
  2. Listening (30 minutes 25% of total mark)
  3. Speaking (aprox.8-10 minutes 25% of total mark)

Level of qualification: Elementary = A2 on the Common European Framework.
