Extracurricular Activities

BASKETBALL AND SOCCER

I would like to inform you that we will continue our school basketball and soccer trainings in this school year.
The classes will be run by Mr Tomasz Wojnowski – a basketball coach since 2004. He has worked in clubs in Poland and abroad (Germany, Luxemburg) at various levels and in different age categories, both in the male and female sections. Additionally, in the years 1996–2012 Mr Tomasz was an active professional basketball player.
MY MISSION
NOT TEAM RESULT BUT INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOR ME. My mission is for every child, to have the skills that allow them to play anywhere.
NOT ACHIEVING THE GOAL BUT STRIVING FOR IT IS A GREATER VALUE. I set specific goals for each of my players. I know that these goals are not always achieved, but during the training and practice process, the child gets to know and learns many valuable skills, that will pay off in the future.

INDIVIDUALISATION
Each child, depending on age, sex, physical conditions, motor skills etc. gets the opportunity and chance to develop and improve their skills.

GAMES
Especially at the beginning of the adventure, I try to conduct classes on the principle of games and playing with elements of basketball and soccer, so that the child develops and trains with a smile on his/her face.

BECOMING AWARE
The second stage in the process is to make children aware that training is not only fun and laugh, but also systematic hard work. I try to convey to all participants, that in every area of life there is time for fun and time for commitment.

Coach: DAMIAN MERKEL

Fencing is more than just a sport! This is an adventure that will develop your self-confidence, discipline and ability to make quick decisions.

This year we are taking fencing to the next level! Training is going to last 2 hours once or twice in a week. Additionally, we provide the possibility of conducting individual lessons.

Fencing is:

  • Physical activity and mental development
  • New friends and unforgettable experiences!

During the classes, competitors will master the basic elements of fencing technique, learn the rules of refereeing and the construction of weapons (epee). The training include with elements of games and activities developing skills such as speed, agility, perceptiveness, and the ability to make quick decisions.

In addition, our students will have the opportunity to take part in the annual "Golden Epee" tournament organized at PBA. And who knows, maybe in the future one of our fencers will become an Olympic medalist like the Polish woman fencing team in Paris 2024!

MATHEMATICS FOR OLYMPIANS

MARLENA PYRKA

Every teacher would dream of a scenario when students look forward to their lessons, work actively in class and inconspicuously acquire new skills. These result in a fantastic test score, and later in the use of math skills in everyday life, because math is everywhere - at school, in the store and in every office. To get students to like maths, you need an idea.

These classes develop mathematical interests for students who would like to move freely in the fascinating world of numbers. Mathematics classes develop imagination, shape mathematical thinking, improve numeracy and the ability to find ways to solve any problem. The ability to think logically and mathematically helps to justify one's own opinion and overcome unforeseen difficulties, it also supports one's own development in other areas.

Leader: Marlena Pyrka - early years education teacher, long-time teacher of extracurricular classes in mathematics.

SENSORY INTEGRATION

Sensory integration is a natural process that occurs in each of us. If for some reasons it does not develop sufficiently, we can observe a delayed or disharmonious development of the child, extensive behavioural problems or learning difficulties.
The aim of sensory integration therapy is to stimulate the central nervous system by stimulating the sensory receptors. The aim of this process is to provide the sensory system with the right quantity and quality of impulses, so that on the basis of these the brain can learn to respond appropriately and develop correct adaptive reactions.
Therapeutic intervention involves the planned stimulation of the three basic, primary senses: touch, proprioception and balance, which form the basis for the development of higher, more advanced sensory processing skills.

CHESS

JULIAN EYSMONT

During my lessons I like to connect fun with useful. I would like kids to actually learn something, but I prioritize just having a good time while playing chess. I operate on a big magnetic chess board, where I show chess exercises. Besides that, in the classroom there are chess boards - each for every two children. Apart from solving chess puzzles and kids playing against themselves, I introduce different variants of playing chess, like: team chess (4 players and 2 boards) as well as hand-and-brain chess (4 players and 1 board).

Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level. I hope everyone will enjoy learning chess and like it even more!

BRICKS 4 KIDZ®

Bricks 4 Kidz® is devoted to providing an extraordinary atmosphere for children, where we learn, we build, and we play with LEGO® Bricks. Classes are designed to teach the fundamentals of S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education, built around our proprietary model plans, created by engineers and architects. At Bricks 4 Kidz, we believe that kids learn best through activities that engage their curiosity and creativity.

ACROBATICS

NATALIA ZYCH

UKS Miłośnik is a sports club that has been operating for over 20 years and is licensed by the Polish Gymnastics Association. We hold classes all over Warsaw, but our headquarters is located in Wesola, where we run competitive athletes who successfully compete in national acrobatic competitions.

Acrobatics requires a lot of flexibility, agility and synchronization of movements, so it makes players develop the whole body during training, which is very important in the development of a child. During the classes, the coach focuses on exercises that enhance strength and endurance, coordination and balance; stretching, concentration and teamwork skills.

The trainings will be led by Natalia Zych - a former trampoline jumping competitor, bronze medalist of the National Youth Olympics and two-time medalist of the Polish Cup in synchronized trampoline jumping, licensed referee and master class coach of the Polish Gymnastics Association.

TABLE TENNIS

The Polish British Academy of Warsaw together with the Students' Sports Club "LUPUS KABATY" are introducing additional table tennis classes for our students. The classes start on 18 September 2023 in the gym in the building at 43 Wiertnicza Street and will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. These are group classes with a maximum of 8 students per group. There are two different class times to choose from on each of these days. It is possible to sign up children for one or both days. Enrolment is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Pupils' Sports Club "LUPUS KABATY" was founded in the 2008/2009 school year. Since its inception, the club has been operating at the Primus Foundation Schools in Ursynów, Warsaw's Kabaty district. The club has specialised particularly in table tennis. In this discipline, the club is a strong point on the sports map of Warsaw and the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, which is confirmed by the medals and league achievements of UKS alumni.
